The Extra Mile Reading Tutor 

My son was diagnosed with dyslexia shortly before we found Mrs. S.  Although he was in early phonics intervention at school for 2 years and we had a private tutor for 6 months, we were seeing little to no improvement in his reading.  Then we found Mrs. S.  Her teaching style and how she cares for her students is rare.  She builds an amazing rapport that encourages my son to try his hardest—she is the perfect mixture of caring but takes no nonsense.  She has high expectations and works with her students to meet them where they are. Her approach has cultivated a pride of accomplishment in my son that he’s never had before.  He went from 2 grade levels behind in reading to being on grade level in 6 months; from dreading reading to asking to go to the library multiple times a week now.  She is a gem of a teacher and a person!  In my entire schooling (elementary, middle, high, college, and graduate school), I’ve only run across one teacher that has the gift of teaching that Mrs. S has—that can see the raw potential in students and motivate them to care and invest in themselves.  We are so fortunate to have found her and look forward to continuing to grow with her for many years to come.
